The Departmental Collection

The departmental collection is exhibited in four different rooms. It is a perfect finish to the immersive journey, confronting the public directly with the works.

The paintings and lithographs from the departmental collection illustrate at what point the Valley of the Oise, its landscape and nearby towns such as Argenteuil, Pontoise or Auvers-sur-Oise inspired the artists. The landscapes were not even one hour from Paris by train!

On the banks of the Oise, natural elements such as water, sky, earth and nature create a juxtaposition of reflections, play of light and majestic panoramas. From Charles-François Daubigny to Claude Monet, via Gustave Caillebotte and Camille Pissarro, Louis Hayet and Ludovic Piette… all these artists used the countryside, towns and villages of the Oise Valley as material for their art.

Finally, two major works are displayed in the Painter’s Studio room: La Gare d’Argenteuil by Claude Monet (1872) and the Bateau à l’ancre à Argenteuil by Gustave Caillebotte (1891).
